D.W. Griffith Shorts

Welcome! Hopefully you've arrived here because you're taking the distance learning course Icons in Film History: D.W. Griffith. We have primarily focused on the feature films of D.W. Griffith in class, but Griffith made many short films before Birth of a Nation in 1915. If you take a look at D.W. Griffith's IMDB page you can see the list of hundreds of other films he worked on before Birth of a Nation, arguably the biggest milestone of his career.

For this blog assignment, we will focus on the short films of D.W. Griffith. Choose one of D.W. Griffith's short films and find it online. For our purposes, a "short" film will be defined as having a total running time of 15 minutes or less. Most D.W. Griffith films are now in the public domain, and are readily available on sites like youtube and vimeo. Feel free to search anywhere online you like, those sites are just a suggested starting point. All students have been added as "authors" of this blog. Create a new post with the link to the video (or embed the video code) here, and write a short critical analysis of the film. You may focus on any aspect of the film you want, cinematography, editing, mise en scène, story, controversial content, etc. You may include multiple levels of analysis if you like, but please keep your post to the point.

You must also comment on at least two other posts by other students by either adding your own critical analysis of the short, or by responding to points made in their analysis.
